“Breathtaking home with the most amazing view. The locals were so welcoming and the restaurants nearby served the most delicious food. I would highly recommend this home! The views were that of a painting. Truly beautiful and stunning! We definitely do not see this in America. Thank you for making our vacation the most memorable!.”

The river comes back to life in spring. Longer evenings, the first kayakers on the water, with boats back on the Erne and the countryside shaking itself awake after winter. It’s one of the best times to be here. The water is clear, the trails are quiet and you almost always have the jetty to yourself.
Spring on the Blueway is about the evenings. By May it's still light past nine — that slow Irish golden hour when the river goes quiet and the fields around Belturbet turn the particular shade of green that makes you understand why people come here. The Blueway is at its most peaceful before the summer boats arrive. Coarse fishing is year-round on the Erne — pike, bream and perch — and from the jetty, the water is right there waiting. Here's where to start.
There’s plenty to explore across Cavan and Fermanagh as the days get longer. A short drive brings you to Crom Estate, with woodland paths, lough views and an atmospheric castle ruin. Closer again, the looped walks in Killykeen Forest Park are easy, well-marked and ideal for a quick outing.
For something simple, Turbet Island in Belturbet is a handy, low-effort wander with river views and a bit of local history — perfect if you want fresh air without going far.
If you're in the mood for getting out and about, there are great options nearby. Cavan Burren Park has well-marked trails and wide views, while the Cuilcagh Boardwalk is far quieter in winter and ideal for a longer walk.
For gentler days, the forest trails around Florence Court are close by and easy to explore, and both Cavan town and Enniskillen offer cafés, shops and local makers if you’d prefer to stay indoors.
You don’t have to go far for good food around here. Corleggy Cheese next door is always worth a stop, and local markets in Cavan and Enniskillen are great for picking up bits to enjoy back at the cabin or studio.
For a bite out, The Butler’s Pantry in Enniskillen is solid for pastries and lunch. For dinner, The Olde Post Inn in Cloverhill remains a favourite for thoughtful, well-executed cooking without being overly formal.
Some of the nicest spring moments here are the simplest: a river walk at dusk, a cup of something warm on the jetty or watching the stars on a clear night. Cavan and Fermanagh have remarkably dark skies, so you’ll see far more than you expect.
If you’re here in spring, lots o community events pop up locally. Nothing huge, just relaxed, friendly and very local. Or keep it simple: stay warm, take it slow and enjoy the peace this time of year brings. Check out our What’s On page for all the latest happenings.
